THE LOWER EASTSIDE GIRLS CLUB.
The Lower Eastside Girls Club connects girls and young women to healthy and successful futures in New York City.
The Girls Club impacts the lives of thousands of girls in middle and high school who are stressed by the overwhelming challenges that poverty, housing instability, and community violence present.
The Lower Eastside Girls Club breaks the cycle of poverty by training the next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial, and environmental leaders. Girls Club members overcome adversity, perceive opportunity, develop self-confidence, make ethical decisions and healthy life choices, thrive academically, embrace leadership, and have the ability to enter college or the workforce as fully prepared and connected adults.
CHOOSE YOUR PRICE.
During a global pandemic, we understand people’s money is even more precious. We wanted to provide additional options for the price of the product to provide flexibility. If you are able to pay a higher price range, it helps us create more packs for the Girls Club.
THE STORY BEHIND THE KIT.
In September 2019, we taught our first Sewing Workshop at Cornell University. We learned how people of all skill levels could learn how to sew together and leave our workshop with a limited edition item.Â
In January 2020, we taught two Fashion Design and Wearable Tech workshop in Ghana and eSwatini and created our first version of our Scrunchie Kit! Everything pre-prepared and special attention to space-inspired packaging. We donated these kits to the students in the program with Code Afrique. After we left, students were making more Scrunchies with traditional Swazi materials!
The following month we brought our kits to our sold-out workshops in Milan, Italy for Fashion Week! It was a special item that people made with the guidance of the workshop during one of the most exclusive events in the world. We made everyone a fashion designer at fashion week.Â
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, we wanted to make sure that everyone still had access to our workshops and community. In April 2020 we moved to the virtual galaxy. We feel very strongly that this kit will help people learn a new skill, be creative, and continue to feel empowered and inspired. Regardless of your skill level or access to materials, we can provide the opportunity to create anytime and anywhere.
